*sigh* July/August Harper's Bazaar Arabia has a special on Kaftans.And I really love kaftans lately. They drape so elegantly, the colors can be so rich and they make everyone who knows how to accessorize look amazing.

And with the Holy Month of Ramadan coming up, everyone's gonna have a kaftan but me!

But if I could, I'd totally consider these 2:

Behold, the Dian Von Furstenberg Annushka kaftan. Now, this one's understatedly sexy because of the belt and the beads around the deep v neck. It's 100% silk, too, because poly just doesn't cut it in this heat. Literally. It does not let the heat cut through the fabric.

 
Here's one from Melissa Odabash that's just freeking awesome because of the feather print. They might be a trend to most people but I've always wanted to be a bird and this is the closest I'll probably ever get. And it would go SO awesome with my hair and my Christopher Ross elephant belt. Or the snake belt.

Ok, so this means that so far, I have a savings of $530 and $1028, respectively. I'd have waited for the Odabash to go on sale, but whatever. 

I'm excited for Ramadan because of all the wardrobe elements that I'll have to revise. Once I get my camera up and working, I'll start posting some outfits.

Sign of the Times?

Lea Winerman of the Monitor on Psychology reported back in June 2004 about a scary shift in the mindset of university students. Citing one psychology professor at Buffalo State University who, as an undergraduate, struggled to acquire an AmEx card because of its strict membership requirements, found that her current students are struggling to juggle credit card balances.

"Students in my [introductory psychology] classes were saying things like, 'I have to take a semester off from school to pay off my credit cards,'" the prof said. 

Seriously?! Taking a semester off from school because you bought a giant stereo? Or too many new outfits?? Or tanning sessions at the local skin cancer saloon??? For realz! What has American society come to? And that was like 6 years ago. Crikey.

Day 3 (362 to Go)

Salam. I am a recent inductee of the Great American Apparel Diet. As such, I have banned myself from buying clothes for one whole year. This is probably gonna hurt now and then.

No Ann D., no Margiela, no Junya, no Helmut Lang (good thing I got my leather trousers beforehand), not even any All Saints.

Why am I doing this? Because I'm sick of consumerism and it's my way of testing my boundaries. I have a rad closet and I'm going to appreciate every piece of cloth, leather and feather inside of it.

One important caveat that keeps my heart beating is that Accessories (shoes, bags, gold) don't count!
